Yes Airlie depends on sailing trips to the Whitsundays,
yes it attracts a fun crowd, but yes it is in a stunning location,
backed by rainforest with a National Park on one side,
with a growing selection of classy restuarants and places to stay.
Not interested in a sailing holiday? Take a day trip across the
Coral Sea in fast catamaran to the
Great Barrier Reef ,
60km from the mainland. Fairy, Hook, Elizabeth Reefs
offer some of the best snorkelling and diving.
From wall dives to viewing coral gardens and the
prolific marine life of the reef.
There is lots else to see and do in and around Airlie.
If foam parties in nightclubs are not your thing
why not a quiet meal in a restaurant. During the day
sunbake alongside the town’s stunning palm fringed swimming lagoon.
Go fishing, or for the very adventurous parasailing,
sea kayaking, maybe crocodile watching on the Proserpine River.
Maybe take a nature watching trip inland to the cane fields and rainforest clad hills.
Those with deep pockets might wish to stay on the five star resort of Hayman Island. Take a sea plane flight over Heart Reef, or a helicopter flight over Whitsunday Passage.
