Uluru | Outback Adventure | Alice Springs |
Alice Springs. Though many scheduled flights are now direct to Uluru,
many visitors still choose to base their Australian Outback
Red Centre tours in the Alice.
A lively bustling modern town,
not at all like the tin shack community
portrayed in the novel of the same name,
but with lots of history both aboriginal and following white settlement.
Sails. Todd River usually dry.
Hotels, motels, bed and breakfast accommodation,
resorts, a casino, restaurants, crafts and souvenir shops,
shopping centres ad the Tood Mall too.
Visit the Old Telegraph Station and the Desert Park- 3 major habitats -
Desert Rivers, Sand Country and Woodland and
one of the largest nocturnal houses in the World.
Don't miss the Art and Cultural Centre or the Museum of Central Australia or the Old Telegraph Station. Climb Anzac Hill for great views. For entertainment visit the Araluen Centre, see the Red Centre Dreaming, or Andrew Langfords Sounds of Silence.
Take a scenic flight, or a tour of the West Macdonnell Ranges.
Drive to Palm Valley and Finke Gorge National Park.
Take a one 2 or 3 day tour of the Red Centre to Uluru and
Kings Canyon, maybe a 4wd safari.
Kings Canyon.
Temperatures can reach 48c, in the words of a stockman
"quoted average temperatures are just that averages". Conversely in winter nights routinely drop below freezing to rise to 25 c by midday though the human body does become more used to the extreme heat over time.
Get up at dawn to avoid the mid day heat,
for a guided hike around Kings Canyon,
within the Gorge Gill Ranges and part of Wartarrka National Park.
Yet another so special place. Rock wallabies in the bottom of the
Creek Walk, or a longer more arduous 6km Canyon Rim Walk and climb
only for the fit and well prepared, taking at least 4 hours to complete.
Step down into the Garden of Eden, admire the red river gums.
Beautiful Australia from the Rock to the Reef - a tourist guide with nice pictures.
