"Litchfield do- Kakadu don't" is often quoted. "Kakadu in miniature" is another quote. Only created a National park in 1986 when the then pastoral lease expired. 130km from Darwin , and hence easily accessible for a Australian outback day tour.

wangi-falls magnetic-mound These tabletop ranges, cascading waterfalls tumbling off the monsoon rainforest clad escarpments, most falls running all year round, termite mounds galore and savannah woodland. The park is a favorite with the locals on a Sunday outing and tourists alike.

Wangi Falls most popular for its large plunge pool, Tolmer and Florence Falls too deserve a mention for the great views. Buley Rockhole, like Wangi, a popular swimming hole but take care and heed warning signs. Often closed to swimmers after heavy rain makes them unsafe.

cathedral-mound Don't miss the magnetic termite mounds of the lowland plains, and a few kilometres from the park entrance on the east side, or the cathedral mounds up to 4m high.

Did you know the Park takes its name from a member of the first European Expedition Frederick Henry Litchfield to explore the area?

Wonder how Rum Jungle got it name? Consignment of rum pulled on oxen dray stuck due to early start of the wet, much of which was drank by the drovers. Batchelor a delightful township and a good stopping off point.

Beautiful Australia from the Rock to the Reef - a tourist guide with nice pictures.
